Stephen L. Snyder is arguably one of the
most successful trial lawyers in the country having settled and
received complex business fraud verdicts totaling hundreds and
hundreds of millions of dollars during his career. Several
of his victories were the largest settlements and/or verdicts at
the time they were awarded. Most recently,
he was hired by the Federal Deposit Insurance Company to pursue claims
against Ernst & Young regarding the failure of Superior Bank.
That case recently settled with Ernst & Young paying $125 million.
Another recent victory was a $276 million jury verdict against First
Union National Bank (now Wachovia) after a two-month trial.
In practice for over 35 years, Snyder is the
firm’s senior partner. Other
major victories include $185 million settlement for the Merry-Go-Round
bankruptcy estate and a settlement valued at $106 million in a claim
against United Cable Company.
Among the many honors he has received, Snyder has
been awarded the highest lawyer rating by Martindale-Hubbell and
was featured in The National Law Journal article entitled "The
Art of the Win: Ten of the Nation's Top Litigators Talk About What
it Takes to Win."
As a recipient of the Baltimore Daily Record’s
2003 Leadership in Law award, he was recognized for his good work
and deeds throughout Maryland. Recipients of this award devote time
and energy to bettering the legal profession and the communities
in which they live and work, and have also served by mentoring future
